NATURAL FOOD STUFFS TO ENHANCE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Immune system of our body is like a wall which protects the fortress (our body) from the attacks of the enemies (antibodies)!
A strong immune system is needed for a person to lead a healthy life. Immune system fights against many harmful disease-causing microbes like bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc.,. But the level of  immunity varies with person. Lesser the immunity, more the person is prone to diseases. To reduce this risk, one has to improve their immunity which can be done easily through their diet.

The food we take in itself acts as a medicine to our body if taken in proper proportions. That's why, we should eat highly nutritious and immune enhancing foods. During this period of pandemic, we should include to our diet, foodstuffs rich in vitamin C, D, B complex, E, protein and zinc. This will help to boost our immunity against the attack of bacteria and virus.
In general, plant based foods like fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices are good for our immune system.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin which does not get stored in the body and will get excreted through urination. So, we can intake it daily to meet our body requirementsIt is an excellent antioxidant and plays a vital role in boosting the immune system - to prevent infections and fight other diseases. Orange, apple, lemon, amla, strawberry, blueberry, grapes, plums, star fruit, kiwi fruit, litchi, pear, guava, pineapple, bell pepper, green chilli, raw mango and tomato are some of the richest source of Vitamin C which we commonly consume. Spinach, broccoli, drumstick leaves, curry leaves, mint leaves, guava leaves are also the richest source of vitamin C, beta-Carotene and iron. 



Turmeric will improve our immunity. Curcumin, the phytochemical present in turmeric has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory property. Garlic and onion are also other common food stuffs with similar antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Pumpkin seeds, peanuts, cashew nuts, almonds, chia seeds, milk and milk products, dark chocolates, olive oil, whole grains, germinated pulses are the food stuffs that are rich in vitamin D, E, zinc and folates. Mushrooms, soya bean, legumes are the richest source of plant protein which will help us lead healthy life. Vitamin D is required for the fixation of calcium in our body, which helps to keep our bones strong. Vitamin E provides glow to our skin and is also an excellent antioxidant.

Spices like clove, cinnamon, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, etc., herbs like tulsi leaves, karpoora valli, nila vembu, adathoda leaves, etc. also will help to boost your immunity and prevent infectious diseases. Using honey instead of sugar will help to reduce the ill effects of sugar and will boost the immunity.
