SPIGELIA ANTHELMIA

Spigelia anthelmia is a common weed of South America belongs to the family of Loganiaceae.It is also called pink root,worm weed,worm grain and worm grass. It is an annual plant growing up to 130 cm height from a cluster of shallow roots,with pink color flowers.It mainly found in road sides ,waste lands ,paddy fields,river bank ,weed in maize, cow pea and millet fields.

This plant contains many chemical constituents like alkaloids,spiganthine ,ryanodine,spigeline,tannins,saponins,volatile oils,steroids,flavonoids ,cardic glucoside,phlobatannin etc.
