MEDICINAL PROPERTIES OF ABRUS PRECATORIUS (KUNDRI MANI)
Abrus precatorius is an important medicinal plant that belongs to the family of leguminosae. It is a slender, perennial climber that twines around trees, shrubs, hedges near forest and village sides in India. Vernacular names of this plant are crab's eye, rosary pea in English, Gunjaa in Sanskrit, Gulgunji in Kannada, Ratti, Ghunchi, Gunja in Hindi, Kundrimani, Kundumani in Tamil. The climber has small tamarind like leaves that are green in color and has slender branches, cylindrical wrinkled stem. F lowers are small and light violet in color with a short stalk arranged in clusters. Fruits contains 3 to 5 oval shaped seeds. Seeds are very attractive with bright red color and a black spot. All parts of the plants have medicinal properties however it also has a deadly toxin called Abrin.
